Marcus Lerviks (born 1969) studied at the University of Art and Design Helsinki (with a Master!s degree from the Pallas Fine Arts study programme) from 1998 to 2001. Marcus lives and works in Vaasa, Finland. He has exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions since 1994 in both Finland and internationally, including Galleri Maskinen in Umeå (Sweden 2012), Galleri Elverket in Tammisaari (Finland 2009), Vaasa City Art Gallery (Finland 2004, 2006 and 2010), Kunsthalle Helsinki (Finland 2005), Gallery Sinne in Helsinki (Finland 2005), Helsinki Art Museum (Finland 2005), Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki (Finland 2004), as well as a public artwork entitled Once More! created for the Culture House of Korsholm (Finland 2007).
Marcus uses video as his principal medium. His works are typically installations employing video, spatial elements, lights and sound. Characteristically the works position the spectator in the space in relation to low bass sounds, lights or constructions, for example. There is often a performative dimension to the works as well. Many of them address the issue of interpersonal interaction, often with an attitude of ironic observation.
Alongside with his own projects, Marcus also works with an artist group called FinnFemFel, which has organised solo and group exhibitions since 1998 in both Finland and internationally, including Kuntsi, Vaasa (Finland 2011), Luftmuseum, Amberg (Germany 2010), Galerie der Künstler, Munich (Germany 2007), Situated self, Nordic Walking, Belgrade (Serbia and Montenegro), Helsinki (Finland 2005), Nordic Walking, Umeå (Sweden) and Budapest (Hungary 2003).
